Receiving eye care services doesn’t have to be a painful, strenuous experience. At Keystone Eye Center, we try our best to make your eye care experience pleasant, painless, and satisfying. When you come to our office, our board-certified optometric physicians would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about your eyes, the examination, vision therapy, or our eyewear and contact lenses.
Initial Case History
Our initial case history is intended to reveal whether your vision problem, if you have one, is the result of an eye problem or of your overall general health. Some general health diseases that can affect your vision include diabetes, blood pressure, and allergies. We’ll also want to know your specific occupational and recreational vision requirements so that our eye care specialists can determine the lens formula that is best for your individual needs.
Eye Health Examination
Our doctor will thoroughly inspect the external and internal parts of your eyes for signs of eye or other body diseases. With our special, high-quality instruments, we can make a study of the interior of your eyes to check for cataracts, retinal problems, and a variety of other diseases. A cataract, which is a haziness or cloudiness in the clear substance of the tiny lens inside the eye, is easily detected in this examination.
Glaucoma Testing
Glaucoma is a condition in which the pressure inside the eye increases, resulting in damage to the sensitive nerve tissues (the retina) and the corresponding loss of vision. Glaucoma generally does not have symptoms until its later stages, but early detection can be achieved through regular professional examinations at our office. Our eye care experts will do an eye pressure test and other tests to detect glaucoma in its earliest stages when it can be treated most effectively.
Vision Testing
Sometimes patients express concerns that they might give incorrect responses to questions asked by the doctor during their eye examination. At our office, you don’t need to have that concern. We have the proper equipment that helps us determine your correct prescription without your responses. We’ll also verify your responses in several ways to make certain that the lenses prescribed provide the clearest and most comfortable focus for all your needs.
Eye Coordination
We perform a series of depth perception tests to determine whether the eyes work together as a team for nearsightedness and farsightedness.
Other Tests
A thorough vision and eye examination consists of numerous tests. Examination of the eye tissue with a biomicroscope, color vision analysis, amblyopia (lazy eye) determination, and vision field study for peripheral vision are some of the tests done in our office.
Prescription Determination
When the eye examination is complete, the doctor studies all the assembled information. The doctor then makes a professional decision on how to give each patient the highest possible visual efficiency. This may take the form of a prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, a recommendation for vision training (eye exercises), a referral to another health care professional, or a clean bill of visual health. Our doctor will also determine when your next eye examination should be.
The Prescription
Your eyeglasses, should you require them, are intended to help you see better and more comfortably. All the lenses prescribed are impact-resistant and comply with the regulations established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Contact Lenses
Soft, oxygen permeable (semi-rigid) or hard lenses are prescribed when indicated. The possibility of using the new extended wear contact lenses – the lenses that some patients may wear for weeks at a time – can be discussed with your doctor. Whatever type of contact lens that works best for you will be fitted and monitored closely by our doctors to avoid any complications to the eye tissue.
Dispensing
We check each prescription received from the laboratory thoroughly to ensure they’re correct and exactly as ordered. We also make sure your glasses fit properly by adjusting them to your face. If you need any follow-up care for your eyeglasses, we’re always available at our office to help.
